  WANDERERS SCORPIONS BASKETBALL CLUB

Currently we have both men’s and ladies teams.
The two senior teams compete in the GBL that runs annually from March to November.

The PBL (Premier Basketball League) is South Africa’s newly formed professional league that was started in October 2006. Sprite is the main sponsor. Eleven of our top players were scouted by various PBL teams, and have been drafted into the professional league. The Wanderers basketball Club now serves as a development platform that nurtures players and gets them ready to be drafted into the pro league.

WBA:
We started the WBA towards the end of 2006. All kids from the age of 8 to 18 were invited to learn fundamentals of basketball. The WBA has now developed into 3 permanent junior teams that participate in league and social basketball throughout the year.

Scorpions basketball aims to increase membership in the following years and continue to promote basketball in South Africa.

The Wanderers Club

The Wanderers Sports Club has a rich heritage in sport and is one of the few remaining successful sports clubs. It has become a home for the development of fast- paced and youth attracting sports.

Scorpions Basketball Club was founded with a development goal to bring basketball to disadvantaged individuals who wish to participate in basketball outside of the University and advantaged School structure. This will allow athletes to play basketball at a competitive level. Scorpions actively promote basketball as a recreational activity and encourage participation by all ages, races and sexes, by providing facilities, programs, training and services.

Scorpions have had a presence in the Metro Basketball League for six years. In addition, we have been involved in basketball development through our management and coaching staff for over 25 years.
